Carlos Corberan will fume at West Brom transfer decision after Isaac Price makes history

West Brom had the chance to sign Standard Liege talent Isaac Price during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old midfielder made the brave decision to move out to Belgium after being let go by Everton during the summer of 2023, having only ever made five senior appearances for the club.

Since then, he has become an important member of the Standard Liege team, making 49 appearances in all competitions and earning regular call-ups to the Northern Ireland squad.

It is understood, as per Kevin Sauvage [24 July], that the Baggies’ original bid for the youngster was deemed “ridiculous”, with a £1.7million price tag being discussed [Sacha Tavolieri].

With the player keen to join Corberan’s set-up at The Hawthorns, the Baggies looked to have missed out on quite a special gem, and his performance on Tuesday (15 October) will only enrage the manager more.

Isaac Price impresses on international stage after West Brom transfer miss

Fans will feel that £1.7million would have been an absolute steal for a player who now has 16 international caps for Northern Ireland.

His sixteenth was likely one of the best nights of his career, not just because of the 5-0 win over Bulgaria, but because he notched an incredible hat-trick at Windsor Park.

Scoring with both feet inside the box before unleashing a long-range strike in the final 10 minutes helped seal a near-perfect win for Northern Ireland, seeing them go top of their Nations League group.

The midfield looks to be Corberan’s biggest weakness, with Uros Racic and Ousmane Diakite yet to show they are capable of replacing Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby in the middle of the park.

However, the Baggies can only watch on as the former Goodison Park gem performs on the international stage, with Corberan missing out on one of his targets this summer.
