Don Goodman shares personal view after what Karlan Grant said about West Brom fans

Don Goodman fully appreciates recent comments made by Karlan Grant regarding West Brom supporters.

Grant, speaking via the club’s official website [13 October], said it is a “nice feeling” to now have the full backing of the fanbase.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan with Cardiff City – a move Goodman credits with helping to turn his Hawthorns career around.

“To feel the love of fans is huge,” Goodman, who spent four years at The Hawthorns, told West Brom News. “I can speak from personal experience that no matter how well you play, if the fans can see you leave everything out there then they will back you.

It didn’t always look like that for Karlan before he went to Cardiff. That move was the best thing that could have happened to him because it allowed him to establish himself as a first-team player, perform well and then come back to West Brom with a new energy and confidence – that’s shown.

You can even account for the 18-goal season when he didn’t have the full love of the crowd, so it’s pleasing to see him work his way back through dedication and hard work. Feeling the love of the fans will do him the power of good.”

Karlan Grant pushing for recall for West Brom against Oxford United

Grant has gone a long way to rebuilding bridges with Albion fans, with that hard work Goodman mentioned indeed being clear to see.

The wide forward can consider himself slightly unfortunate to have sat out the meeting with Millwall last time out, but a goalless draw in that one means he should return to the fold against Oxford.

One goal and no assists from nine appearances – eight of those starts – is a tally Grant has to improve on, but he has showed he is good enough to feature regularly in a side chasing for promotion.

As long as he keeps giving his all for the shirt, each and every supporter will continue to get behind Grant.

In other West Brom news, Goodman has labelled Corberan a “genius” due to conditions he has had to work under.
