Torbjorn Heggem makes ‘huge’ admission after what happened away from West Brom
West Brom defender Torbjorn Heggem was delighted to make his debut for Norway despite their 5-1 defeat against Austria.
The Baggies defender did not have much to do towards the end of the game as he came on as a substitute for Norway, who had already conceded five goals by the time at the Raiffeisen Arena on 13 October.
However, despite Norway’s disappointing result, speaking to the media about making his international debut [West Bromwich Albion], Heggem reflected on the “huge achievement”.
“It was a good experience for me. Of course, it’s always going to be nice to get called up for the first time in my career.
“You have several dreams as a footballer and one of them is always to represent your nation – and I was lucky enough to get that call and make my debut as well.
“It was a great experience, even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, but to get my first minutes, that alone is a huge achievement for me.”
Torbjorn Heggem deserved debut after West Brom displays
West Brom signed Heggem this summer and the defender, who has primarily played as a centre-back throughout his career, has been deployed on the left by Carlos Corberan.
The 25-year-old has started in all nine of the Baggies’ Championship games in the current campaign, with the West Midlands club boasting one of the best defences in the league.

Against Austria, Heggem played 11 minutes, making two ball recoveries and winning 100 per cent of his duels in the short time the defender was on the pitch, as per FotMob.
Corberan’s style of play has seen West Brom’s full-backs be more conservative in their approach going forward.
Therefore, the system likely suits someone like Heggem, who is not known for his attacking attributes and has therefore contributed to the team’s solid defensive system.
Heggem was deservedly handed an opportunity by Stale Solbakken and hopefully, the defender will make his way back to the Hawthorns in high spirits ahead of the fixture against Oxford United on 19 October.
