West Ham United youngster takes clear swipe at West Brom boss Carlos Corberan
Callum Marshall has taken an apparent swipe at West Brom boss Carlos Corberan by claiming he is enjoying his loan at Huddersfield Town “100 times more” than his last one.
The West Ham United youngster arrived on loan at The Hawthorns in the second half of last season, but only made three league appearances under Corberan, eventually returning to the Hammers early to earn more game time in their Under-21s.
Marshall has since joined the Spaniard’s former club Huddersfield on loan in League One and has got off the mark while so far clocking up 11 appearances.
The Northern Irish forward told the Huddersfield Examiner [15 October]: “Being in the first-team squad here [at Huddersfield], when I go back to my club [from internationals] I’m not just seen as a youth player, I’m seen as a serious contender to take part. It’s been great for me.
“This loan, I’ve really enjoyed it 100 times more and I’ve only been here a few weeks so it’s been great. It’s a big difference for me.”
Callum Marshall found game time rare at West Brom
Marshall came as an exciting loan prospect and something of a wildcard to develop with the Baggies, but the deal just never worked out for either party.
In fairness to the 19-year-old, he was willing to return to playing Under-21 football with West Ham, though remained registered for Albion in case Corberan needed to call on him.
A disappointing loan can be career-defining for a young player, so it is good from Marshall’s perspective that he has found somewhere to hone his skills further.

Marshall’s appearances under Corberan all came within a 13-day period in February, all at The Hawthorns and totalling just 54 minutes, as the likes of Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jed Wallace and Grady Diangana kept his opportunities across the frontline limited.
Huddersfield currently sit ninth in League One, having won five and lost five of their opening 10 matches. Marshall scored his first senior league goal for the Terriers against Shrewsbury Town on 24 August, the only strike of the game.
