Daryl Dike injury update emerges as new West Brom U21s decision made

Carlos Corberan has confirmed Daryl Dike will play no part in West Brom Under-21s’ fixture on Thursday (17 October).

The young Baggies are set to take on Swansea City in the Premier League Cup at The Hawthorns, with Gianluca Frabotta playing a role in the game, but it comes too soon for the American striker.

Dike has been sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury since the 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town in February earlier this year and is still working his way back to full fitness.

Speaking to the Express & Star [17 October], Corberan said: “It is too early. We knew the challenge with him would be the moment he started to work with the group.

“He still needs to accumulate more under-21s training before the first team, and more under-21s training before an under-21s game.”

Daryl Dike nearing West Brom return after horrid injury?

Fans will still remember Dike’s screams after going down injured at Portman Road, having only just returned from another serious injury.

The 24-year-old has experienced an awful time at The Hawthorns since arriving from Orlando City in December 2021, having only made 32 senior appearances in that time.

While Corberan and his team are playing it extremely safe with the striker, which is a sensible idea given his injury record, his return to the squad would be huge this season.

The Baggies have a real chance of claiming promotion to the Premier League following a bright start to the new campaign, sitting in fourth with 17 points after nine games.

Fellow striker Josh Maja is in stellar form for the Midlands club, scoring seven goals in his first nine appearances, but Corberan has very few options other than the Nigerian.

Dike’s return at some point this term would offer the manager a brand-new attacking outlet, even if he were to only be utilised as a substitute in the Championship.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan will be fuming with a transfer decision after Isaac Price makes history.
