Carlos Corberan shares ‘fantastic’ update on his West Brom future after exit speculation

Carlos Corberan’s recent update on his future at West Brom is “fantastic news” for Shilen Patel, according to Carlton Palmer.

The Baggies boss revealed in an interview with Birmingham Mail (16 October) that he would be “very, very happy” to extend his stay at West Brom amid speculation over his future.

Corberan has led his side to fourth in the Championship after an excellent start to the season and Palmer has expressed how his recent update should spark optimism.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “That’s fantastic news for the hierarchy at West Bromwich Albion and for the supporters, given rumours of sackings at Leicester and Southampton that may occur, obviously he’s been linked with those jobs.

“He’s done a magnificent job in difficult circumstances, and I know the fans love him to bits, I’ve been there to watch the games and see the receptions and how they do.

“I think even the owners appreciate the job he’s done in difficult circumstances and now the club’s on a more secure footing, with the new owners.

West Brom could still lose Carlos Corberan

Despite his recent comments definitely providing optimism, it can’t be overlooked that Corberan could still exit West Brom.

After all, how many times have we seen a player or coach express his desire to stay at a club before departing within the following weeks? Plenty of times.

Corberan is arguably the best coach in the EFL and it should come as no surprise to see him linked with Premier League jobs after the work he has done at the club.

With that said, it is hard to see past the clear excitement Corberan has in regards to being at the club and the Baggies’ promotion hopes could certainly hinge on his future.

If success is to be achieved this season, it will be under the stewardship of the Spaniard but the longer that speculation continues, the more it could impact the season.

January will prove to be a crucial aspect in their chase for promotion and confusion over his future could deter players from joining the club and West Brom can not afford to let that happen after what has been a remarkable start to the Championship campaign.
