Carlos Corberan surprise emerges at West Brom as expert speaks out

Simon Watts is surprised that Carlos Corberan has not been linked with more jobs in the Premier League after the positive start at West Brom this season.

The Baggies have started the campaign with five wins in nine Championship games and sit fourth, with their next fixture against Oxford United on 19 October.

Watts was asked about his verdict on West Brom’s season [talkSPORT, 17 October, 19:39], and the EFL expert expected the Baggies to do well due to Corberan.

“Not really, because I think Carlos Corberan is just such a good manager,” he said.

“And I’m actually surprised he hasn’t been linked with more jobs in the Premier League, to be honest with you. Because, you know, people forget last year, they didn’t spend a penny on a player last season, and he got them into the playoffs semi-finals.”

Carlos Corberan to leave West Brom?

West Brom weren’t in a good spot when Corberan arrived, with the likes of Steve Bruce still stuck in the memory at The Hawthorns.

After the departure of Bruce in October 2022, Richard Beale took charge of the team on an interim basis for a few weeks, and it was essential for the club to make the right appointment at that time.

With Corberan, the Baggies made one of the best decisions and are reaping their rewards, with the Spaniard bringing that winning feeling back to The Hawthorns.

The Spaniard’s arrival saw the team get out of the relegation zone, and West Brom have since been consistently fighting for a playoff spot.

Despite the Baggies hardly spending money over the last two years, Corberan has been able to compete with the top teams in the Championship.

The Spaniard has milked every ounce of talent from the squad at his disposal, and hopefully, the 41-year-old will be able to take the club back to the top flight in the coming years.
