Southampton new manager odds: West Brom manager Carlos Corberan outside bet to replace Russell Martin

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is ninth in the running to succeed Russell Martin at Southampton, according to the latest bookmaker odds.

Corberan is rated at 9/1 by Gambling.com (22 October) to take charge at St Mary’s in the near future, despite the Premier League side reportedly having no immediate plans to sack Martin [Sky Sports, 22 October].

The Spaniard’s 9/1 odds give him a 10 per cent probability of becoming the new Saints boss, with Graham Potter and Burnley manager Scott Parker either side of him in the current standings.

The favourites according to Gambling.com are out-of-work trio David Moyes, Rudi Garcia and Kasper Hjulmand, who sit on odds of 2/1, 11/4 and 3/1 respectively, with Luton’s Rob Edwards next on 4/1.

Martin is under increasing pressure at St. Mary’s with his side sat 19th in the Premier League table after a 3-2 loss to Leicester City last time out, having won promotion at Albion’s expense last season.

However, Corberan’s side making a strong season still leaves him ninth in the running, with Daniele De Rossi, Frank Lampard and Ralph Hassenhuttl also ahead of him in Gambling.com’s odds.

Will West Brom keep hold of Carlos Corberan this season?

It’s far from the first time that a current or impending managerial vacancy has drawn a club’s eyes towards The Hawthorns, and any interest from Southampton in Corberan wouldn’t be surprising.

Fellow promoted side Leicester were extremely keen on the Spaniard over the summer [Tom Collomosse, 14 June], weighing up approaches for both Corberan and Graham Potter before settling on Steve Cooper instead.

The Baggies’ start to the season, which saw them win five of their opening six league games and quickly rise to the top of the Championship table, has only boosted Corberan’s stock with other clubs.

Shilen Patel, however, has clearly shown plenty of faith in Corberan since taking charge of the Hawthorns, giving the Spaniard significant funds to spend in the summer window for the first time.

In light of this, Corberan has also proven himself to be a shrewd operator, shaving 30 per cent off the club’s wage bill, and Patel will be keen to see him continue in his role for the foreseeable future.
