Devate Cole predicted to be unhappy with Carlos Corberan decision at West Brom

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman believes Devante Cole will be disappointed by his lack of action since arriving at West Brom in the summer transfer window.

Cole has featured just once for the Baggies so far in the Championship, coming in a 14-minute cameo appearance from the substitutes' bench in the 3-1 win at QPR on the opening day.

Since then, the former Barnsley player has just one EFL Cup outing to his name and has often been left out of the squad entirely for league matches.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Goodman said: "I look at Devante Cole and he has played 14 minutes.

"If I was him I'd understand I'm not there to be the first-choice striker, but I'd also expect a lot more minutes.

"Particularly when you consider that West Brom have struggled for goals in some games, especially at The Hawthorns."

Carlos Corberan explains Devante Cole signing at West Brom

Corberan was asked about Cole's lack of game time last week and explained the striker was signed to provide back-up.

Cole would have known as much when making the switch to The Hawthorns in August, but he also would have been expecting to played more than 14 minutes in the league at this stage.

Josh Maja has had a superb start to the campaign, scoring seven times in 10 matches, but he is on a three-game drought without a goal.

Albion have gone four without a win now, yet Cole was not in the squad for three of those games in which the Baggies were chasing a goal.

The 29-year-old may yet prove to be a smart signing but, 10 games into the campaign, it is difficult to see how he is going to turn things around.
