Carlos Corberan to make Tom Fellows decision ahead of West Brom v Cardiff City
Carlos Corberan has a tough decision to make over Tom Fellows before West Brom face Cardiff City on Saturday (26 October).
The 21-year-old winger has featured in all of the Baggies’ 11 Championship matches so far but has notched just one assist in his last five games.
While he was given the nod ahead of Jed Wallace for the 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday 22 October, Corberan gave him just 58 minutes before replacing him with John Swift.
That clearly made a statement, with some fans surprised by the early substitution, and now the manager must decide if he sticks or twists with Fellows when the Baggies welcome the Bluebirds to The Hawthorns.
Fellows is clearly a talented player, racking up five assists in the opening games of the new season, but it has been a struggle for the 21-year-old in recent games, with the team also struggling in general.
Corberan’s side are now without a win in five matches, losing back-to-back matches against Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough before consecutive draws against Millwall, Oxford United and Blackburn Rovers.
Carlos Corberan to axe Tom Fellows ahead of West Brom v Cardiff City?
Something clearly needs to change at The Hawthorns, and unluckily for Fellows, his drop in form may have come at a bad time and could see him axed from the starting XI.
Despite creating a total of 16 chances so far this season [FotMob], he was unable to create any against Blackburn while only registering a 0.02 xG and 0.02 xA in the final third [FotMob].
While he maintained a 100 per cent shot accuracy, it was a tame effort for goalkeeper Aynsley Pears to collect, while his zero per cent crossing accuracy was little for the Rovers defence to worry about.
Ranking in the top 88 percentile for assists [FBref], his form in the first few games saw him earn a spot in the starting XI, but as his form has dipped, there can be few complaints if Corberan takes him out.
