West Brom told to avoid ‘foolish’ Tom Fellows exit decision amid Everton transfer interest

Carlton Palmer has told West Brom they would be “foolish” to sell Tom Fellows during the January transfer window.

Everton are understood to be keeping tabs on the Albion star, with a delegation checking in on him at The Hawthorns as they wait for a cash injection at Goodison Park [Alan Nixon, 27 October].

Although Football League World pundit Palmer believes that Fellows is “destined” for the Premier League, he thinks Carlos Corberan’s side would be making a mistake allowing him to leave mid-season.

Speaking to Football League World (30 October) he said: “One of their players that has been outstanding for them is Tom Fellows. Everton have been tracking him.

“They have been tracking the 21-year-old for some time. He’s capped by the Under-21s and, again, any deal will hinge on Everton receiving a cash injection with the Toffees in the midst of a takeover.

“West Brom won’t be happy to lose such a talented player, but they did expect that it may have happened in the summer. It’s believed that Everton are looking for fresh legs in their attack as they look to bolster their survival hopes.

“They need to keep hold of young Fellows. He has started the season really well, they want to get a promotion this season. He’s their prized asset and to lose him mid-season would be strange.

“They’ve had a takeover themselves, Carlos Coberan has done really well, so I think that they’d be foolish to sell him at this moment in time.

“West Brom hold all of the cards. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract extension, so his deal doesn’t run out until the summer of 2027.

“If he moves to Everton, because of the situation they are in, he’s going to play in the Premier League, and that’s where this boy is destined to play. So, it’d be a good move for him because West Brom are still going to have it all on.

“From West Brom’s point of view, it’s not a good time to sell Fellows, but it’d be a good buy for Everton and a good move for the player.”

Will Tom Fellows exit The Hawthorns amid West Brom and Everton transfer rumours?

Albion and Fellows may not have been at their best over the last couple of weeks, but Corberan’s side are still well and truly in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

Although promotion via the playoffs seems much more likely than automatic promotion this term, the Baggies’ chances of finishing in the top six will be much higher if Fellows is still a West Brom player beyond the end of January.

The 21-year-old has become one of the most important players under Corberan at The Hawthorns. Yes, he hasn’t been quite as effective this term as he was last, but he is still one of the best-attacking players in the Baggies’ ranks.

Of course, every player does have a price. If the right offer is made for the England youth international, Albion may have no choice but to sanction his departure.

Unless that asking price is met, however, Palmer is right. The Baggies would be foolish to let Fellows leave midway through the season.
