Carlos Corberan reveals how long West Brom star Semi Ajayi will be out for
West Brom boss Carlos Corebran has confirmed that defender Semi Ajayi will be out of action for “around 16 weeks”.
Ajay picked up a hamstring injury in the Baggies’ draw with Cardiff City last weekend, 26 October and Corberan has revealed that the Nigerian international will require surgery.
The news was confirmed on the club website (31 October) where Corberan also provided an update on Kyle Bartley, Daryl Dike and Paddy McNair. All of them will miss a minimum of four weeks.
The statement from Corberan reads: “Semi, unfortunately, has suffered a more difficult injury. It was an action which was an accident. In this action, he has broken his muscle in two parts.
“The best way to manage this injury is with surgery because surgery helps reduce the risk of suffering this type of injury again.
“There are injuries which affect the tendon in specific areas where you have to have surgery. The surgery delays things by around two weeks, but it also reduces the risk of the injury reoccurring. Returning in about 16 weeks is the approximate time when you have this type of surgery.”
The injury crisis at West Brom could be detrimental
The Baggies have already fallen into a bad run of form, winless in their last six although they still only find themselves eight points from top and three behind second-placed Burnley.
It is a more than salvageable gap although the current injury crisis could see them drop even further down the Championship table.
Ajayi and Bartley are the first-choice partnership under Corberan with McNair arguably third in line. With all three out injured, it will be a tough task for the Spaniard to find the right balance for his side as they enter the busiest period of the season.

In their absence, Mason Holgate will likely step up and it could provide an opportunity for Gianluca Frabotta to make a claim for his place in the side at left-back with Torbjorn Heggem a possible option at centre-half.
The crisis has arguably come at the worst time for the Baggies who are set to face Burnley, Norwich and Sunderland in that timeframe of the current injuries.
