Former West Brom coach Michael Appleton has been linked with the loans manager role at Manchester United with Les Parry set to leave, according to Training Ground Guru.

The online outlet reported via their website on 31 October that after several recent Old Trafford departures, Parry is set to be the next in line.

Appleton's name is among those listed by the website as potential candidates that the Red Devils could pursue to fill the now-absent role.

Ex-West Brom coach Michael Appleton set for new role

Appleton was in charge of the Baggies in 2011 as caretaker manager after staying with the club for five years following his retirement from his playing career.

His most recent managerial stint was with Charlton last season but after he was let go in January, he's found himself without a job.

While going from a first-team manager to a loans manager may seem like a bit of a step-down, the fact it's for such a prestigious club such as Man United shows the talent Appleton possesses.

The former West Brom coach has been long-linked with the role and it finally seems as if Dan Ashworth is getting his man.

Dan Ashworth was a major part of the most successful West Brom spell in recent history.

Working alongside Ashworth again much like he did at the Baggies could re-ignite the fire within him and perhaps help to get his career back on track.

West Brom will no doubt be hoping for a similar sort of redemption themselves as their season has seemed to take a turn for the worse recently with the Baggies now winless in their last five Championship games.
