West Brom to sign new defender on loan as crisis emerges

West Brom are looking to add a centre-back to their ranks on a loan deal in January to help cover their defensive crisis, according to DOOD.

The reliable Baggies insider reported via X on 31 October that “conversations” have also already been held with Wycombe Wanderers regarding the potential recall of Caleb Taylor in the winter transfer window.

Carlos Corberan has found himself light at the back after both Semi Ajayi and Kyle Bartley were both ruled out for lengthy spells.

Carlos Corberan needs to add another centre-back to his West Brom ranks

The fact that Bartley, Ajayi and Paddy McNair are all ruled out for a lengthy period is nothing short of a crisis for the Baggies.

Corberan’s men have been in a bit of a slump over the last few weeks and have managed to drop down to fifth in the Championship.

Their recent form has left a lot to be desired with West Brom failing to win a game in their last five Championship outings.

The fact McNair’s loan deal is set to expire in January also doesn’t help matters much, because, even if the entire squad is by January, they’ll still be short in defence.

Hence why, making a move for another centre-back in January makes a lot of sense.

Of course, there’s plenty of time for things to change but at the moment, it doesn’t feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for Corberan and his men.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have shown an interest in acquiring the services of Lewis O’Brien.
