Josh Maja lauded by Don Goodman after what he did in West Brom clash v Luton Town
Don Goodman was thrilled with Josh Maja’s finish that gave West Brom an unlikely lead in the first half against Luton Town.
The 25-year-old scored with a deft flick after receiving a pass from Karlan Grant to dumbfound Thomas Kaminski in the Luton goal.
It was a striker against the run of play at Kenilworth Road on 1 November, but the hosts managed to equalise and secure a point with Tahith Chong scoring the equaliser and the game ending 1-1.
Goodman told Sky Sports Football (1 November, 8:50 pm): “It’s a brilliant finish. Against the run of play. That’s what it’s been like this season for Luton. A good finish from Maja. Cheeky.”
West Brom need to start winning games quickly if they’re serious about getting promoted
Maja’s goal against Luton was indeed sensational, showcasing his clinical finishing with a backheel flick that will undoubtedly be a highlight of the season.
He has been inconsistent this season but this goal will certainly be a confidence booster for him.
However, beyond the individual brilliance, the context in which this goal was scored raises concerns about where the team are headed under Carlos Corberan.
Despite Maja’s moment of magic, the Baggies’ winless run stretching to seven games indicates deeper systemic issues.
The tactical setup, team selection, or perhaps the inability to capitalise on momentum after scoring first are all aspects where the Spaniard’s decisions come under scrutiny.
While individual brilliance can mask underlying problems temporarily, the lack of consistent wins suggests that quick adjustments are necessary.

Hopefully, the players can also be more clinical and composed in decisive moments and start racking up wins sooner rather than later.
