Dermot Gallagher raises really good point after what happened in Luton Town v West Brom

Dermot Gallagher has shot down suggestions by Rob Edwards that Luton Town should have been awarded a penalty in the 1-1 draw with West Brom.

The ball hit Callum Styles on the arm in Friday’s (1 November) match at Kenilworth Road and the former Barnsley man looked suspicious, but in the end nothing was given.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (4 November, 11:41am), former Premier League referee Gallagher shared his take on the incident.

“It’s interesting because Rob Edwards said after the game if it was in the Premier League it would have been a penalty,” he said.

“Well actually, if VAR was used like in the Premier League the referee would have pointed to the spot and then it would have been overturned for a push in the back [of Styles].”

Sky pundit Sue Smith replied: “It’s a really good point.”

West Brom need to find their Championship form

The Baggies have had a rather strange season thus far. They were top of the standings after a very strong start, until they lost 3-2 to Sheffield Wednesday on 28 September.

Since then, their form has been rather patchy to say the least and, as things stand, Carlos Corberan’s men are now seven games without a win in the second tier.

The Baggies are still in the promotion spots and are just five points adrift of second place, but if their form doesn’t pick up soon, they could find themselves dropping outside of the top six.

There’s plenty of time for them to turn things around, of course, and with Josh Maja now back firing after netting the opener in the game against Edwards’ men, Baggies fans could well see their team making their way back up the table in no time at all.

In other West Brom news, Carlos Corberan could ask for a new striker signing after a fresh Daryl Dike update at The Hawthorns.
