Neil Redfearn rages at ‘Shocking’ West Brom v Burnley controversy

Neil Redfearn believes the decision to disallow Jaidon Anthony’s goal in the 0-0 draw between West Brom and Burnley on Thursday was “shocking”.

The 24-year-old thought he had given the visitors the lead at The Hawthorns in the 58th minute when he leapt over Callum Styles to head home a Lucas Pires cross on 7 November.

However, celebrations were cut short as the referee deemed Styles to have been pushed by Anthony, leaving Redfearn infuriated.

“Shocking decision to disallow that Burnley goal, the game’s gone”, he wrote on X (7 November).

Burnley controversy at West Brom

West Brom, who drew 1-1 with Luton Town in their last outing, were lucky not to lose against Burnley as the alleged foul on Styles was soft.

The midfielder, playing at left-back on this occasion, himself seemed resigned to the goal and did not appeal for a foul after the ball hit the back of the net.

Had the goal been given, things would have gone from bad to worse for Carlos Corberan’s side, who are now winless in eight games. They were atop the table at the start of October but now find themselves sitting fifth.

Taking a glass-half-full approach, West Brom are unbeaten in six games and have kept clean sheets on four of those occasions.

They are also not far behind in the race to secure one of the two automatic promotion spots, with second-placed Sheffield United only six points ahead.

Corberan and Co. have an opportunity to return to winning ways when they visit eighteenth-placed Hull City on Sunday (10 November).
