West Brom player ratings v Burnley – John Swift in 4/10 stinker
West Brom extended their winless streak to eight games after their 0-0 stalemate against Burnley at The Hawthorns on Thursday.
Carlos Corberan made three changes to his Baggies side on 7 November, with Jayson Molumby, John Swift and Tom Fellows all coming back in.
It was a quiet evening at The Hawthorns, with Jaidon Anthony’s disallowed goal in the second half for Burnley the big talking point as The Albion jumped back up to fifth.
Here, West Brom News has rated each player out of 10.
Alex Palmer – 6
Found himself fairly busy but was once again more than solid between the sticks. Single-handedly kept West Brom in the game after Sarmiento’s chance in the 26th minute with a brilliant block. Was absolutely hammered with chances at the start second half and still kept a clean sheet.
Darnell Furlong – 7
Instantly found himself involved in the game as he sent a cross hurling towards Swift at the back post within the opening five minutes which unfortunately never came to anything. Surprisingly creative throughout the game despite not being his best in that department this year. Probably West Brom’s best player.

Mason Holgate – 5
Decent all-round performance but did have a few nail-biting moments throughout the clash, found himself involved in a fair few of the Baggies’ chances but was more than solid defensively and held his own alongside Torbjorn Heggem.
Torbjorn Heggem – 6
Helped Holgate hold down the fort and managed to keep Scott Parker’s men at bay, constantly back and forth and was key in linking up play between the defence and midfield. Almost set up the winner for Grady Diangana in the dying embers of the game with a near-perfect cross.
Callum Styles – 4
Not his best game, was done more than once by Jeremy Sarmiento and looked a bit out of depth at left-back. Had a fairly decent long shot towards the latter end of the first half but it unfortunately fizzled over the bar. Was let off by Anthony’s disallowed goal otherwise, he’d have faired much worse.
Jayson Molumby – 6
Constantly involved throughout the game, seemed to cover more ground than anyone else on the day and helped shore up the Baggies’ defensive line on more than one occasion. Was majorly let off after Josh Cullen’s flick-on from a corner wasn’t met by any of his teammates at the back post.
Alex Mowatt – 6 (Off for Uros Racic 64′)
Helped control the centre of the park for the Baggies and was the main man when it came to pinging balls forward. Somehow let a near-perfect free-kick delivery from Swift in the first half just glide past him and head towards the byline.
John Swift once again failed to prove his worth for West Brom

John Swift – 4 (Off for Michael Johnston 64′)
Wasn’t at his best, had a ball sent hurling towards him within the first five minutes from Furlong but skied it over the bar. Was one of West Brom’s worst players on the night and failed to prove his worth. Wasn’t a surprise to see him taken off in the 64th minute.
Tom Fellows – 5 (Off for Tom Fellows 64′)
Made a couple of darting runs forward in the clash and had a couple of decent opportunities but didn’t seem to be his usual self. Hardly a surprise to see him hooked before the end of the game, way off the mark.
Karlan Grant – 7 (Off for Devante Cole 86′)
Had a couple of decent chances throughout the game and kept Connor Roberts fairly busy down his right-hand side of the pitch. Seemed to have a much stronger impact in the second half and it felt like he came into his own towards the latter stages of the clash.
Josh Maja – 5 (Off for Grady Diangana 82′)
A surprisingly quiet night for the Nigeria international after his game against Luton. He wasn’t given many chances and failed to create anything for himself. Was also awarded a yellow card for a needless foul on Josh Cullen.
Substitutions
Uros Racic – 5 (On for Alex Mowatt 64′)
Didn’t have much say on the final result, took over from Mowatt and filled the void the former Barnsley man left well. Was fortunate that his slip in the 84th minute didn’t spark anything more than alarms.
Lewis Dobbin – 6 (On for Tom Fellows 64′)
Almost the cause of the Baggies’ best chance in the second half after a darting run from his half but his poor pass led to the ball turning back into the possession of Burnley.
Mikey Johnston – 6 (On for John Swift 64′)
Much like Dobbin, had a decent impact when he came on but didn’t have enough quality to get the full three points for Corberan’s men.
Grady Diangana – N/A (On for Josh Maja 82′)
Devante Cole – N/A (On for Karlan Grant 85′)
