Problem highlighted after Burnley draw as West Brom branded ‘Woeful’

After the draw between West Brom and Burnley, reporter Lewis Cox branded the Baggies’ goalscoring record at home as “woeful”.

The Hawthorns hosted the Clarets on 7 November in the Championship, with both teams vying for points in their bid to secure a play-off spot.

In the end, the match ended in a 0-0 draw, and Carlos Corberan’s failed to add to the two goals they have scored at home all season in the league.

Speaking after the game [7 November] on Express and Star, Cox gave his thoughts on West Brom, saying: “The record in front of goal here is bad, it’s woeful, it’s unheard of bad and it’s a problem when it’s like that at home because this is where you want to do your best stuff in front of your home crowd.

“You want opposition to fear coming here as they have under Corberan. Not of late though. It’s been very tough for six, seven weeks. Let’s include away as well. It’s eight games without a win. It’s six draws in a row, which is also kind of unheard of. It’s bizarre.”

Carlos Corberan needs to turn the tide at West Brom

Corberan has done an exceptional job with the Baggies since being appointed back in 2022, bringing the team back into relevance with respect to promotion prospects in the Championship.

In the previous campaign, the club fell short after losing to Southampton in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

This time around there is hope among The Hawthorns faithful that the Spaniard will be able to get the team over the line.

West Brom started the season on a convincing note, winning five of the opening six fixtures in the league.

But since then, the Baggies have lost a bit of momentum, with back-to-back losses against Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough followed by six straight draws.

Finding the back of the net has been a significant issue for Corberan’s men, with Josh Maja the leading goalscorer with eight goals, and getting in a new number nine feels like a priority now to help in the push for promotion.

While the defensive solidity of the team is encouraging, the 41-year-old head coach arguably needs to change things up a bit to make his team more prolific.
