Scott Parker ‘fuming’ after West Brom v Burnley controversy – Don Goodman
Don Goodman believes Burnley will be “fuming” after their goal against West Brom was ruled out for a push on Callum Styles.
The Hawthorns welcomed Scott Parker’s team in the Championship on 7 November, and with both teams unable to break the deadlock, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Burnley did find the back of the net, though, but referee Tom Nield ruled it out as he penalised Jaidon Anthony for a foul before slotting in his header.
Goodman, the co-commentator for Sky Sports [7 November], disagreed with the referee’s decision live on air, saying: “That’s not enough. I’m sorry, if I’m Burnley, and I’m Scott Parker, I’m fuming.”
West Brom got a lucky escape against Burnley
Carlos Corberan has gotten the Baggies back to competing for a meaningful spot in the league table over the years.
The Spaniard has ensured a balance in the team, with the team now unbeaten in their last six games, conceding just two goals, and summer signing Torbjorn Heggem has been a great addition in that regard.
Against Burnley, though, West Brom were arguably lucky to come away with a point, as Anthony didn’t do too much to impede Styles before scoring the goal.
But The Hawthorns faithful won’t have any complaints regarding the decision as it ensures the club maintain their unbeaten run in the Championship.
West Brom have turned their home into a fortress, conceding just one goal since the start of the season, although Corberan needs to find a way to improve the team’s attacking prospects.
While the team’s defensive solidity is admirable, finding the back of the net is essential to winning matches, and hopefully, the game against Hull City on 10 November will see some of the forward players get back to their best.
