West Brom player ratings v Hull City – Mowatt and Fellows flop, Johnston stars
West Brom secured a 2-1 victory against Hull City on Sunday afternoon at the MKM Stadium.
Karlan Grant opened the scoring for the visitors and Josh Maja made it two within five minutes on 10 November.
Joao Pedro then pulled one back for the hosts before half-time to set up a nail-biting second half.
Here are our player ratings for the game:
Alex Palmer – 6
Could not be blamed for the goal and made a decent save in the second period. Apart from that, he did not have much to do, but whenever he was called into action to claim the ball or get his team forward, he did exactly that.
Darnell Furlong – 8
Was undoubtedly one of the better players for the Baggies and did not seem to put a foot wrong in the game apart from a few misplayed passes. He was exceptional in defence, both aerially and on the ground as well, and made a telling contribution in the final third, registering an assist.
Mason Holgate – 7
An impressive outing from the centre-back who was decent in possession and also did not let his side down defensively. According to Sofascore, he won six out of his eight aerial duels and ensured that the Hull City attackers did not have an easy day in the final third.
Torbjorn Heggem – 7
Much like Holgate, Heggem did not put a foot wrong in defence and was tidy in possession. He carried the ball out of defence confidently on numerous occasions and pinged long balls which were accurate on most occasions.
Callum Styles – 6
Tried getting forward as much as he could but was not always successful with his strides in the final third. There were occasions he struggled to get back in position but it’s not something glaring that will infuriate Corberan. Apart from that, it was a tidy display from the West Brom left-back.
Alex Mowatt – 4
Was a poor outing from the central midfielder who struggled to progress the ball or dominate the battle in midfield. He was wayward with both his attempted crosses and defensively, offered little to no cover to the midfield.
Jayson Molumby – 5
Was a bit wayward with his passes and that will not have pleased Corberan as that saw his side losing the midfield battle. Defensively, he did his bit in trying to shield the back line but he’s expected to be better in possession.
Tom Fellows – 4
Struggled to get into the game and managed to complete just six passes in the 54 minutes he was on the field of play. He also got bullied in duels and failed to get a hold on proceedings. Undersnatble why Corberan took him off as he did not seem to have his head into it.
Karlan Grant – 7
Scored the first goal of the match and Corberan will be pleased that he kept getting into positions where he could either fancy chances for himself or help play his teammates through. He even worked tirelessly off the ball and will have delighted the travelling fans.
Michael Johnston – 8
Was the creative spark in attack and rarely put a foot wrong. Always looked to make things happen in the final third and even had an assist registered to his name. He was pin point with his passing as well and was certainly a menace to deal with for the Hull players.

Josh Maja – 7
Made lives difficult for the Hull City defenders with his constant movement and even managed to find the back of the net. Corberan surprisingly took him off early as he was one of the best players for the Baggies and always looked to make things happen in the final third.
Substitutes
Grady Diangana – 5
Lewis Dobbin – 5
Uros Racic – 6
Ousmane Diakite – 6
Jed Wallace – 5
