Carlos Corberan admits to being unhappy with West Brom development

Carlos Corberan hit out at the Championship schedule after his West Brom side played on Thursday night before the 2-1 win against Hull City on Sunday.

The Baggies ended an eight-match barren streak at the MKM Stadium [10 November] courtesy of Karlan Grant and Josh Maja goals, before Joao Pedro scored a consolation for the visitors.

However, Corberan couldn’t help but vent his frustrations at the Championship fixture schedule after picking up a first win in nine outings.

“We arrived to this game in a very difficult physical challenge because we played Thursday night,” he said, as per Birmingham Live [10 November]. “The minimum [gap between games] for me should be 72 hours. In my opinion, this is a risk.

“We played against an opponent not in similar physical conditions because they played two days earlier. It’s not an excuse but we knew to achieve a positive result the level of strong mentality had to be key.”

West Brom finally back to winning ways in the Championship

Corberan will be the happiest man in the West Midlands after the weekend win. His side are finally back to winning ways in the Championship after nearly two months without a victory.

The Spaniard has important tests coming up after the international break with games against Norwich City, Sunderland and Sheffield United on the horizon, but the side will be more than happy after ending an eight-match winless streak.

Maja found the back of the net for the first time since the 3-2 loss against Sheffield Wednesday, which began the spiral in form. Mikey Johnston finally rediscovered his form after completing a permanent switch to The Hawthorns in the summer.

While Corberan is all too pleased with securing the three points in his 100th outing for the Baggies, the boss is not at all happy with the quick turnaround in matches in the Championship.

However, this is the nature of the second division. The fixture schedule is notoriously demanding and the boss should use his anger to fuel an upsurge into the automatic promotion conversation.

Despite drawing the most games in the Championship alongside Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers, the side remains in fifth place – in the playoff spots and only six points adrift from joint league leaders Sunderland and Sheffield United.

West Brom’s promotion rivals are yet to experience a similar drop-off in form and with Corberan still in the race to return to the Premier League, his side should be ready to capitalise when the inevitable happens.
