Carlos Corberan makes West Brom ‘crisis’ admission after what’s happened

Carlos Corberan has suggested that West Brom are always one week from “crisis” after their recent run of draws.

The Baggies have won just one in their last nine games, drawing six on the bounce before securing a 2-1 win against Hull City last Sunday (10 November).

Supporters at The Hawthorns will be hopeful that their side can secure another three points as they prepare to welcome Norwich City on Saturday (23 November).

With this fixture on the horizon, Corberan understands that his side are just a game away from fans growing in frustration.

Speaking to Relevo [17 November], the Spaniard said: “When you’re on a good run, you have to think: ‘I’m one week away from a crisis,’ and I’ll give you an example of ours. We started off with five wins and a draw, and in one week both of our midfielders were injured.

“We lost in the 90th minute, 3-2 at Sheffield, then Middlesbrough came two days later, with the defeat still undigested by the squad, and we lost 0-1, and we drew the next game. Boom, crisis. In one week. When you’re on a good run, you’re one week away from a crisis.”

It is unusual for any side to go so many games in a row without a win but also remain unbeaten and towards the top end of the league.

The Baggies haven’t been conceding many goals despite injuries that have been sustained to various defenders in recent weeks.

This has forced Torbjorn Heggem to move across to centre-back and Callum Styles to come in at left-back, which has been largely effective.

This team decision was utilised against Hull City as Albion secured a 2-1 win at the MKM Stadium thanks to goals from Josh Maja and Karlan Grant.

It appears that Corberan understands how football works among fans and knows that this result will only keep them happy until his side fails to win again.

This rough patch of form, described as a “crisis” by the Spaniard, has left the club sitting in fifth in the league table, maintaining a playoff spot.

Although it hasn’t been ideal for supporters in recent weeks, there is plenty to be positive about.
