West Brom boss Carlos Corberan opens up on future after approach from Spanish club
Carlos Corberan has admitted it was nice to be linked with other clubs after a successful season with West Brom last time out.
The Spaniard was touted as a contender for numerous managerial positions throughout the summer, namely at Midlands rivals Leicester City.
LaLiga side Las Palmas were also credited with an interest, which Corberan was asked about in a new interview with Relevo in which he opened up on his future desires.
Asked specifically about the Las Palmas approach, Corberan said: “After a season like last year, which was a good season, I think it’s always a time when opportunities arise and people ask about your situation.
“It’s always nice to have people ask and find out about you because it’s recognition of your work, and even more so if it comes from Spain.”
Asked if he would like to manage in Spain in the future, Corberan said: “My goal is to be the best coach I can be – that’s my day to day, I live with that obsession.
“When I meet with my staff we don’t tell each other the good things, we tell each other what needs to be improved – I already know the good things.
“Having said all this, I repeat that I consider myself very proud to be Spanish… and Valencian.”
West Brom must make most of Carlos Corberan while they can
A very small minority of West Brom fans wanted Corberan out during the club’s recent winless run, and they were rightly labelled “idiots”.
As a reminder, Corberan has turned an Albion side threatened with relegation into regular contenders for a play-off finish.
Indeed, he defied expectations last season by finishing in the top six – where the Baggies spent pretty much all season – and has them on course to do likewise this season.

It would have been easy for Corberan to push for a move to a top-tier Spanish club in the summer, even more so when operating under transfer restrictions.
He stayed in place, though, and there really is no better manager out there for West Bromwich Albion.
