Leicester City are narrowing down the search for Steve Cooper's replacement with West Brom boss Carlos Corberan still on the shortlist, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper's print edition reports [26 November, pg 53] that Corberan has long-term admirers at the King Power Stadium and that he was on the shortlist in the summer to replace now-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has emerged at the front of the queue after his short-lived interim spell at Manchester United, but Graham Potter and David Moyes, on the other hand, are not under consideration for the position.

Leicester are eager to appoint a new man in the dugout before the match against Brentford on Saturday [30 November] and could approach Corberan in the coming days.

West Brom face a fight to retain Carlos Corberan

The Baggies are in a strong position to fend off the interest from Leicester - Corberan signed a long-term contract in February extending his stay until 2027.

Therefore, the Foxes would need to fork out a significant buyout fee to pry Corberan out of The Hawthorns, and this is considering the boss greenlights the move.

West Brom has struggled to get over the line in matches in the Championship as of late but remains in sixth place and are in the hunt for a playoff finish this season.

Leicester are, on the other hand, in a dangerous position in the top flight; after two wins in 12 outings, they sit one point clear of safety, with Crystal Palace and Wolves threatening to rise the table after recent performances.

However, Guillem Balague reported on Monday [25 November] that Corberan is among the favourites to succeed Cooper across the Midlands, and Leicester could throw everything at West Brom amid the reported one-week deadline.

Ultimately, the decision will be down to the Spaniard, but leaving The Hawthorns at this stage would be a massive risk and one that could backfire massively at the end of the season.

Leicester have plenty of worthwhile unattached options to consider, but for now, it is a waiting game to see just how badly Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha wants Corberan in the Premier League.
