Corberan out of reach to Premier League club due to West Brom clause

Dan Bardell believes Leicester City have opted to hire Ruud van Nistelrooy because they couldn’t afford Carlos Corberan’s release fee at West Brom.

The Foxes are yet to announce the former Manchester United interim boss as their new head coach but looks set to be confirmed as Steve Cooper’s replacement soon [The Telegraph].

This looks set to end any speculation linking the Baggies manager to the vacant role at the King Power, much to the delight of everyone associated with The Hawthorns.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested Albion’s release fee for the Spaniard put Leicester off making an approach due to their financial worries.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “I don’t think Corberan would leave West Brom mid-season.

I think he’s the sort of manager if he starts somewhere, he’ll want to see that job through to the end of the season.

I actually think he’s out of Leicester City’s reach, he’s signed a new contract and there’s a release fee in that contract.

Leicester don’t have the financial means to pay that which is why they’ve gone for the route they have with van Nistelrooy, seemingly.

Leicester City opt out of hiring West Brom boss Carlos Corberan

It is always a worry when a lower-end side in the Premier League becomes in need of a new manager given the quality that the Spaniard has shown during his spell in the West Midlands.

There may be less need to worry for supporters given that the Baggies have been smart enough to insert an apparent release clause in his contract.

This has done its job already by putting the Foxes off bringing in the ex-Huddersfield manager which is only a boost for Albion.
