Everton make Mason Holgate transfer decision while on loan at West Brom
West Brom loanee Mason Holgate is set to leave parent club Everton when his contract ends in June 2025, according to The Athletic.
The online news source reported on Friday (29 November) that of the 13 Everton players out of contract at the end of the season, Holgate’s future is one of the “easier ones” to determine, and he will move on when his deal expires.
Holgate, who signed on loan at Albion for the second time in August, would be at least fourth-choice in both central defence and at right-back if he were to return, but his time at Goodison Park is over.
The 28-year-old has made just four appearances for the Baggies since his return to The Hawthorns, but has been a regular starter in recent weeks following defensive injuries to the likes of Kyle Bartley.
Mason Holgate’s future up in the air at West Brom and Everton
While Carlos Corberan will be glad to have been able to call on Holgate to address Albion’s current injury crisis in defence, Baggies supporters haven’t been quite as happy to see him lining up at the back.
The Jamaican international had a mixed performance including an opportunistic back-heeled goal against Norwich City, but will need to produce much more consistency to earn a permanent move.

Completing such a transfer in the summer of 2025 could prove to be a simple acquisition for the Baggies regardless of the division they’re set to play in, but it remains to be seen if the appetite will be there.
Corberan had previously been hesitant to use Holgate despite his keenness to sign the defender, but his recent run of games will likely help to determine whether the Spaniard wants to keep him long-term.
With his exit from Everton looking inevitable, it’s now up to Holgate to prove that he has the ability to make the Hawthorns, which he first (briefly) arrived at in 2019, his home for the coming seasons.
