West Brom fans wowed by what Everton loanee Mason Holgate did v Preston

West Brom fans have lauded Mason Holgate after his goal-line clearance in their 1-1 draw with Preston North End in the Championship on Saturday.

The Everton loanee started the game at centre-back and played alongside Kyle Bartley, with the duo managing to keep the Lilywhites at bay for almost an hour until the pressure got too much and their defence was broken.

The 30 November game was the Baggies’ 10th draw of the Championship season thus far and, while it’s better than a loss, supporters are craving three points.

Mason Holgate has proven his worth to West Brom fans

While his defensive ability wasn’t top-notch throughout the clash, his goal-line clearance in the first half set him apart from his teammates and proved his worth to Carlos Corberan’s squad.

The Baggies have been in a bit of an injury crisis of late, which is why Holgate has cemented his spot in West Brom’s starting XI.

One fan took to X and stated that he’d been “excellent” in the first half, with another hailing the board for bringing the Jamaica international to The Hawthorns by saying, “What a signing”.

The defender is having what seems to be a mixed bag regarding his time at the club, with fans making it seem like the defender is similar to marmite – they either love him or hate him.

The Baggies may not have lost all that many games this season but the fact that they’re not winning any either is starting to become a major cause for concern.

If Holgate can continue producing moments of class such as his goal-line clearance against Preston, and the Baggies can find a way to hold onto a lead, they could be onto a winner and perhaps find themselves in a playoff place again.

However, if things continue as they are, it’s difficult to make out where the Baggies are going to end up.
