Tony Brown shares Lewis Dobbin view v Preston in ‘worrying’ West Brom admission

Tony Brown was pleased with Lewis Dobbin’s performance against Preston despite a “worrying” showing from West Brom.

The Aston Villa loanee has generally struggled since joining the Baggies on loan in the summer but made his first Championship start of the season at Deepdale.

Albion legend Brown praised the winger on BBC Radio WM post-match (30 November) but was frustrated with the overall performance against North End.

He said: “He [Dobbin] was better today, to be honest. He looked a bit more threatening. He got involved in the game more than I’ve seen before playing for Albion.

“He did a lot better but as I say the performance in the second half is worrying for Carlos Corberan.”

The 21-year-old hasn’t had the easiest spell since joining on a temporary deal for the season, making 13 appearances off the bench.

It has been tough for the forward to put together a positive run of form with just limited minutes as a substitute being available.

Despite this, Corberan opted to hand the Villa loanee a chance from the start and he restored that faith with a positive showing on a disappointing day for Albion.

Many supporters were left unhappy with the performance of their side against Preston, especially in the second half where the performance level dropped.

This saw the home side take the initiative before and after scoring an equaliser to cancel out Karlan Grant’s early strike.

Some fans have now started to question the manager at The Hawthorns after nine draws in 10 Championship games, which has seen his side drop out of the playoff places.

The Spaniard will be hoping for more positive performances from Dobbin with a view to finally securing wins on a more regular basis.
