BBC Radio WM journo shares Corberan update amid shock West Brom-Wolves news

BBC Radio WM journalist Steve Hermon says he can see why Carlos Corberan is being considered from his job at West Brom to join Wolves.

The Baggies’ local rivals are not in need of a manager yet with Gary O’Neil still at the helm but there is plenty of speculation surrounding the boss’ future ahead of their game against West Ham on Monday [9 December].

It has been reported that Corberan is top of the list for the Wolves hierarchy as they look at potential successors after the job he has done at the Hawthorns which sees them sit seventh in the league.

Although Hermon is yet to confirm any links, he has admitted he can understand the reasoning behind this as he wrote on X: “I’ll be chatting to Carlos Corberan ahead of #WBA’s game against Sheff United later. I have no info on this report but if #wwfc want a head coach who can work on a budget and makes his side defensively secure, I can see why they’d add him to a shortlist.”

Carlos Corberan can not leave West Brom for Wolves

Above anything, if Corberan left the Hawthorns to join Black Country rivals Wolves, his current supporter base would no doubt feel a sense of betrayal in him leaving the project he is working on with them as they seek promotion to the Premier League.

The Baggies have hit a bit of a wall in terms of their recent form and despite being unbeaten in 10 games, they have drawn nine of those which has seen them drop out of the play-offs into seventh place.

That being said, as Hermon alludes to, you can see why he is being mentioned in relation to the vacancy. He has not got the biggest set of resources to hand at his current club but he has managed them well and set them on a really good run.

In addition, whilst the number of draws has become frustrating, they have kept clean sheets in five of their last 10 games showing his ability to create a solid defensive unit, something Wolves will be crying out for at this time.

A link doesn’t mean a manager will go anywhere and with O’Neil still in a job it doesn’t pose the biggest threat to the Baggies currently but nonetheless, they will be hoping that their boss would rather stick with a project on the way up rather than saving another side who could be on the way down.
