Don Goodman reacts to Corberan Wolves bombshell at West Brom

Don Goodman can’t envisage a scenario in which Carlos Corberan leaves West Brom on his own accord despite growing concerns at The Hawthorns.

Albion have had a tricky season so far having once occupied the summit of the Championship to now finding themselves with one win in 10 after their draw against Preston on 30 November.

Quiet murmurs have started to appear among the Baggies fanbase that Corberan should be sacked with the Spaniard seemingly under growing pressure to keep his job.

However, Don Goodman told West Brom News that Corberan is unlikely to leave off his own back and would be even less likely to join rivals Wolves if they opted to sack Gary O’Neil despite a report from Matteo Moretto claiming Corberan is top of their list.

“As somebody that’s played for both of those clubs, I would say that’s highly unlikely to go straight from one to the other,” Goodman said.

“I don’t think there’s a 0.01% chance of him getting snapped up by Wolves if I’m honest with you. I don’t really see him leaving of his own accord unless there’s a Premier League club comes in and says, we want you. You know, who else is going to be sacking managers? Well, potentially it’s been mooted that Julen Lopetegui would be in a world of trouble. Would West Ham go for a Carlos Corberan? I highly doubt it.

“There’s a project at West Brom that he has started and he hasn’t finished. And I would guess he would like to finish the project and ultimately the end goal would be to get them to the Premier League.”

Carlos Corberan is crucial to West Brom

Whether it’s through his own doing or not, West Brom simply cannot afford to lose Corberan.

If the club opted to sack him, it would be a huge mistake despite their recent form of one win in their last 10 Championship encounters.

The Spaniard has showcased himself as one of the best managers in the division and that is the exact reason he gets touted for Premier League jobs.

If there is anyone capable of turning things around at the Hawthorns, it is Corberan.
