West Brom fans will be furious with how Corberan responded to Wolves question
West Brom fans won’t be happy after Carlos Corberan skirted around the question when asked about his links to the managerial job at Wolves.
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported on Friday (6 December) that Corberan is top of Wolves’ shortlist to replace Gary O’Neil should they sack the English manager in the coming days.
However, given the rivalry between the two local sides, this suggestion has been met with some push-back from supporters on both sides.
Nevertheless, the 41-year-old failed to shut down any links when asked in his pre-match press conference if he could make a move to a Baggies rival, as he told ITV journalist Dan Salisbury-Jones who shared on X: “Like I told you for me we are playing one game on Sunday that is very very very important for us.
“We are preparing well because we know that Sheffield is competing at a very good level, they are the team, they are the team now the best team in the league. Even with the two-point deduction they are showing that they are making a fantastic job.
“All my concentration and focus is on this.”
Could Carlos Corberan leave West Brom for Wolves?
Given O’Neil is still in his job at Wolves, this shouldn’t be playing on the minds of Baggies fans too much just yet. However, with the pressure upon him, if his side do lose against West Ham on Monday [9 December], finding his successor could become a pressing job for the board.
For the supporters at the Hawthorns, a departure from their club to a local rival would be worse than leaving for most other clubs as they would surely feel a sense of betrayal from the boss who has been building something at his current club.
No one could blame the promising manager for being tempted by a job in the Premier League and there was always going to be a risk of this due to his success in the Championship but if he did choose to make the move to Wolves, it could certainly spoil his legacy at his current club.
At this stage, the Baggies do have a big test to prepare for in Sheffield United but some supporters will no doubt be feeling some concern after hearing the boss’ comments.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are looking to sign an ex-Premier League striker in January.
