West Brom to take huge risk with Kelechi Iheanacho and Josh Maja transfer call
Don Goodman believes it is a “huge risk” if West Brom sell Josh Maja and replace him with another striker amid links to Kelechi Iheanacho.
Rumours emerged last week from El Sevillsta [5 December] claiming West Brom want to sign Iheanacho from Spanish side Sevilla.
Those links begged the question as to whether he could be seen as a replacement for Maja, having been linked with a £16million switch to Celta Vigo (Super Deporte).
However, speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Goodman said: “It’s very difficult. Can you put a cost on a price if you’re West Bromwich Albion on Josh Maja, who despite this team that’s not functioning in an attacking sense as it would want to, is still scoring goals?
“It would just be a huge risk at the end of the day for £16m, even if they do get that.
“To sell your striker, who’s scored almost half of their goals, why would you even think about that? As I’ve said before, they are now a football club on a much more sound financial footing and foundation and they should be adding players not selling their star players or their best players.
“They should be adding players to get to the end goal which of course is the Premier League”.
West Brom can’t afford to take transfer risks in January
The January transfer window provides teams with an excellent opportunity to address weaknesses in the squad that were perhaps overlooked in the summer.
As for the Baggies, that is undoubtedly in the creativity department with Mikey Johnston struggling for form among several others, albeit the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United offered encouragement.

Albion’s one area of strength is in the striker department, with one of the best forwards in the division in Maja.
Why would you weaken your side in January ahead of a promotion push? It would be ludicrous and something West Brom simply cannot afford to do.
In other West Brom news, one player in particular struggled against Sheffield United.
