Jeff Stelling shares West Brom title verdict after what’s happened recently
Jeff Stelling doesn’t believe West Brom are among the teams challenging for the Championship title this season.
The Baggies added yet another point to their tally after their 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday 8 December.
Carlos Corberan’s men are currently eighth in the table and unless they can get their defence back up to scratch, it’s hard to see how they’d make their way back into the top two.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (8 December, 07:54am), Stelling shared his thoughts on West Brom.
“Within those 10 draws out of 11 by the way there have been five nil-nil’s so I think that tells you everything,” he said.
“West Brom are an ambitious club, it’s one point not three, you know in the days when it was two points for a win and one point for a draw, you’re absolutely laughing.
“They’ve lost as fewer games as Sheffield United, they’ve lost one less than Leeds but they’re not challenging for the title.”
Carlos Corberan needs his West Brom team to start winning again
While Corberan may still be getting linked with moves away from The Hawthorns, his focus will no doubt be on improving the Baggies’ standing in the second tier.
They started the 2024/25 season off impressively and were at the top of the pile for a chunk of time.
Josh Maja’s sublime form in front of goal no doubt had a massive part to play in that and while West Brom have only lost one more game than Sheffield United this season, it’s felt like they don’t have the killer instinct needed.

Of course, there’s still a way to go in the Championship this season but unless Corberan can find a way for his men to get three points consistently, they could find themselves outside of the play-off places by the end of the season.
If they can manage to find their form in the final third once again and not throw away leads as they did against the Blades on Sunday, they could end up within the top six.
