West Brom Championship promotion chances predicted by supercomputer
West Brom are still expected to finish in the Championship promotion places this season after the 2-2 draw against Sheffield United, according to the Opta Analyst supercomputer.
The Baggies picked up another draw in the Championship against Sheffield United on Sunday [8 December] as Tom Fellows’ 62nd-minute strike rescued a share of the spoils at The Hawthorns.
Carlos Corberan’s men have left a lot to be desired on the pitch in the Championship and have suffered a drop-off in momentum ever since the 3-2 loss against Sheffield Wednesday, wherein Albion led the league table heading into the clash.
However, the Opta supercomputer [9 December] is still predicting West Brom to finish the 2024/25 campaign with 71.92 points and record a sixth-placed finish.
West Brom need to start winning to up the promotion odds
The draw against Sheffield United is the 11th time West Brom have been forced to settle for a point in 19 Championship outings, with 10 of their past 11 clashes ending with a share of the spoils.
No matter what Corberan tries to do on the pitch, the opposition always has an answer, and the Baggies have now finally fallen out of the playoff spots in the Championship.
An automatic promotion berth is non-existent as things stand, with a 2.84 per cent chance of finishing in the top two according to the supercomputer, and a title charge is out of the equation almost entirely, with a 0.68 per cent chance of Albion being crowned champions in May.
After the playoff semi-final defeat at the hands of Southampton last term, Baggies fans would have undoubtedly been eager to avoid another playoff lottery this season, but all roads are heading for another dance.

However, Corberan can enjoy better fortunes in the playoffs in his second attempt in the West Midlands once he overcomes the small matter of beating whatever opposition lies in front of him.
West Brom have capable performers of mounting a promotion bid, such as Torbjorn Heggem, who has been sensational at The Hawthorns since his arrival from IF Brommapojkarna – however, the core group needs to catch up.
The squad is brimming with talent who are not reaching the desired heights, and Corberan must address this ongoing problem immediately before a predicted playoff berth becomes a confirmed stay in the second tier.
