Wolves would have to pay West Brom to hire Carlos Corberan and replace Gary O'Neil, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reports [10 December] that the Baggies would require compensation to part ways with the Spanish head coach if their West Midlands rivals were to approach him.

Corberan has been suggested as one of the options to replace O'Neil, but The Telegraph reported on 10 December that O'Neil is safe from the sack for now.

Corberan was recently linked with the Leicester job after they sacked Steve Cooper [Guillem Balague, 25 November], but the Foxes went on to appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy.

It wouldn't be a good idea for the Spaniard to accept the top job at Molineux as he would become an instant villain at The Albion.

The Baggies have a fierce rivalry with Wolves, and one player who received ridicule from The Hawthorns faithful in recent weeks was Craig Dawson, who scored two own goals as O'Neil's team lost 4-0 to Everton on 4 December.

Corberan has done well since being appointed at the West Midlands club, and it's unsurprising to see him linked with a move to the Premier League yet again.

West Brom are in a position to get back into the English top flight, which could encourage the 41-year-old to stay.

The Baggies made the playoffs last season and were around the top of the table at the start of the current campaign but have slipped over recent months.

While The Albion are unbeaten in 11 matches in the Championship, they have managed just one win during that time and now find themselves several points adrift of the top of the table.

A move to the Premier League would undoubtedly be alluring to Corberan, but becoming the manager of Wolves wouldn't make sense for several reasons, one of them being that they are among the favourites to get relegated.
