Curtis Davies reacts to what Corberan did in West Brom v Coventry – ‘It Stinks’
Curtis Davies accused Carlos Corberan of pragmatism after he took Josh Maja off at half-time as West Brom beat Coventry 2-0 at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night.
Maja, 25, had little impact in the first half and looked as though he was lacking match fitness before Corberan hooked him and replaced the striker with midfielder John Swift.
Ex-Albion captain Davies didn’t seem to be a fan of the change, even though it was likely a forced substitution.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event at half-time (09:00pm, 11 December), Davies said: “It stinks of pragmatism to me.
“It seems that Swift’s going to come on and make a three-man midfield to try and control the midfield and the game from there.
“It might go on to create chances, yes. But taking off a striker for a midfielder at half-time seems like that.”
Is West Brom striker Josh Maja injured?
Maja didn’t look himself in the first half.
He put in a massive shift against Sheffield United on Sunday and with the way the fixture list gets congested at this time of year, it wouldn’t be a shock that he was running on empty and Corberan simply got him off to rest him.
As per stats by Sky Sports, Maja had just 11 touches in the opening 45 minutes and lost possession seven times.

According to SofaScore, the Nigerian centre-forward had 25 touches in 86 minutes against Sheffield United and only lost possession five times.
Clearly, his performance had waned from that super display against the Blades.
Hopefully he’s not injured because he’s the only reliable goalscorer Corberan has in his side.
In other West Brom news, Tony Brown was stunned by what he saw in the first half against Coventry.
