Don Goodman reacts to Alex Mowatt footage in West Brom v Coventry – ‘Wow’
Don Goodman was blown away by how Alex Mowatt scored for West Brom in their 2-0 win against Coventry City at The Hawthorns on Wednesday.
Mowatt put the Baggies in front just 11 minutes into the game on 11 December as his left-foot strike from outside of the box hit the back of the net, albeit with a big deflection off Josh Eccles.
Goodman was, nevertheless, impressed by the technique of the 29-year-old’s shot, which he feels would have difficult to deal with even without the deflection.
“Wow, what a strike!”, Goodman said live on Sky Sports [11 December, 8:12 pm].
“It does come off Josh Eccles, who bashed the ground in frustration after he saw the ball hit the net.
“It’s not the start he [Lampard] would have wanted, trying to get Jack Rudoni over to the touchline.
“But, what a strike from Alex Mowatt. These are difficult these, as they bounce back out, bobbling, bouncing, you’ve got to be really focused.
“Gets his knee over the ball and keeps a hard low strike and you do fancy if it gets through that Brad Collins may deal with it, he doesn’t.”
Don Goodman can’t believe what Alex Mowatt did in West Brom v Coventry – ‘Wow’
Mowatt’s opener put the West Midlands outfit on course for their first win in five games, with Karlan Grant’s second-half goal then putting the match to bed.
Carlos Corberan will be hopeful that the result is a sign of good things to come for West Brom, who will continue to dream of earning promotion this season.
The Baggies were placed atop the Championship table at the start of October, but an abysmal run that saw them win just once in 13 games pulled them out of the automatic promotion spots.
Looking at the positive side of things, Corberan’s side are unbeaten in 12 games in a row. Although most of those results were not ideal, it has helped them keep their points tally ticking and remain within 10 points of first-placed Sheffield United.
Mowatt, meanwhile, will be relieved to have scored for the first time since September and will look to add more to his tally in the coming weeks.
