Don Goodman slams ‘terrible’ West Brom v Coventry scenes after what Grant did

Don Goodman gushed over Karlan Grant as he scored for West Brom in their 2-0 victory over Coventry City at The Hawthorns on Wednesday.

Grant’s 74th-minute goal sealed the game for the Baggies on 11 December as they claimed their first Championship win in five games.

Speaking live on Sky Sports [11 December, 9:32 pm], Goodman hailed the striker as “outstanding” for the way he took his goal, but blasted Coventry duo Bobby Thomas and Joel Latibeaudiere in the process.

“He has been the outstanding player on the pitch for me anyway before this, this just rubber stamps it a little bit. Breathing room, let’s call it that”, the pundit said.

“He just offers himself here to feet, but nobody goes with him. Bobby Thomas drops in, Latibeaudiere drops in and neither of them makes any kind of challenge.

“It’s terrible defensively from Coventry, but brilliant from Karlan Grant, and it’s everything that he deserves, he’s been outstanding.

“Once he gets through, can he stay calm? You bet your life. Finds the corner, no chance for [Brad] Collins.”

You could sense a collective sigh of relief at The Hawthorns as Carlos Corberan’s side earned their first win since 10 November.

Coventry were not a side to take lightly as they went into the game on the back of a 1-0 victory over Millwall after Frank Lampard took the reins.

It took a formidable performance from everyone involved to ensure that the West Midlands outfit claimed all three points on Wednesday evening.

Grant, though, receives special praise as he was one of the standout performers for West Brom as Goodman said live on commentary.
