West Brom fans love what Corberan did to ‘absolutely awful’ Maja v Coventry
West Brom fans were in agreement with Carlos Corberan as he made a shock half-time Josh Maja substitution against Coventry City.
The 25-year-old had an electric start to the campaign but his form has slowed in recent weeks, scoring just one goal in his last five games.
The Nigeria international wasn’t able to get back on track against the Sky Blues on Wednesday (11 December) as he was hooked during the interval.
The Baggies went on to win 2-0 thanks to goals from Alex Mowatt and Karlan Grant with Corberan’s decision ultimately vindicated by the result.
Josh Maja substitution v Coventry City backed by West Brom fans
Although this change took some sections of The Hawthorns by surprise, many supporters agreed with the change after the ex-Sunderland man’s first-half showing.
One fan suggested that he looked “knackered” while another said: “If you want to go to the top, you have to make these decisions. He was pony so he took him off. Well in”
It has been suggested that Maja “didn’t look happy” but another handed a reason why this substitution was made.
They said: “He just looked absolutely knackered at the end of the half. He needs a rest”
His showing in the opening 45 minutes arguably didn’t mean he deserved to stay on the pitch regardless of any potential fitness issues.
To sum this up, one supporter simply described his first touch as “awful” in an unimpactful performance.
It was a night to forget for the Baggies number nine but with a clash against Watford coming up on Sunday (15 December), there is no shortage of opportunities for him to prove himself.
In other West Brom news, Coventry fans rattled The Hawthorns with a chant about Brandon Thomas-Asante.
