Carlos Corberan West Brom development as Southampton eye ex-international boss

West Brom are set to survive another Premier League managerial hunt with Carlos Corberan still in post.

Southampton are the latest club looking for a new boss to succeed Russell Martin, whose Saints side overcame Albion en route to play-off success last season but have been dismal in the top flight.

Corberan was – as tends to be the case these days – among those on a potential list lined up by the board at St Mary’s, but according to page 48 of the Daily Mirror on Tuesday [17 December], former Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand now joins Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl as a leading candidate.

Leicester City, bitter rivals Wolves and now Southampton have all been linked with a move [Express & Star, 16 December] for the impressive Spaniard to attempt to prise him from The Hawthorns.

West Brom crucially keeping hold of Carlos Corberan

Every time a Premier League club move closer to appointing a new manager, West Brom fans cannot be blamed for breathing a sigh of relief.

Corberan is extensively admired in the top flight not just for the way he operates at The Hawthorns, but his potential as a young coach with potentially decades ahead of him to raise his stock in the game.

His nous in English football and the impressive ability he showed alongside Marcelo Bielsa with Leeds United have brought him into consideration for some top jobs, but he has never looked to agitate for a move.

It does however make it more crucial that Shilen Patel and the board supply him with as many of the adequate tools as possible to earn promotion with the Baggies, which will again be a tough ask this year.

For now, it seems the club survive with their boss intact as Sheffield Wednesday could turn out to be the divisional rival raided for their highly-esteemed coach.
