Josh Maja set for game-changing West Brom exit after £16m reveal

West Brom could receive game-changing money if they were to sell Josh Maja in the upcoming January transfer window, Dan Plumley has said.

La Liga side Celta Vigo are said to be readying a £16million offer to sign the Nigerian after his quick start to the Championship season [Super Deporte].

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that the Baggies would find it hard to turn down should that offer arrive next month, regardless of how their squad looks.

“It would,” he exclusively told West Brom News when asked if it would be game-changing money.

“That kind of fee comfortably puts it in and around the top transfers out of the Championship, so it’s big money all things considered.

For West Brom, we’ve talked a lot about their financial situation, the change in ownership and now moving forward on a much more positive front.

West Brom to sell Josh Maja?

With the running out of parachute payments and the situation they have been in, it’s huge money for them or any club in the Championship.

When you start to talk about fees in the region of £16m for Championship clubs, that is big money.

If that’s on the table, you’d be really hard-pressed to turn that money down given the way the market is and the individual club situation.”

With Carlos Corberan also linked with an exit from The Hawthorns, it could be a rather bleak few winter months should Maja also leave.

£16m is massive money though and given well-documented financial issues in the recent past, West Brom could be welcoming an offer like that.
