Sky Sports share Corberan-to-Southampton update as West Brom exit fears grow

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is one of the candidates being considered by Southampton to become their new manager, according to Mark McAdam.

The Sky Sports reporter posted on X [17 December], crediting Rob Dorsett, that former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand and at least one other foreign manager are also on the Saints’ shortlist.

Southampton sacked Russell Martin following the 5-0 thrashing against Tottenham on Sunday [15 December].

Carlos Corberan from West Brom to Southampton?

Corberan has done a great job with West Brom and it is being reflected by the fact that every time there is a sacking in the Premier League at the moment, he is being considered for a step up to the top flight.

Furthermore, given how far the Saints find themselves from safety, the club are no doubt looking at who would be able to do a good job in the Championship if they find themselves looking to go up again next season, and the Spaniard does come with that confidence.

However, the Baggies would be hugely disappointed to lose their manager at this stage in the season as they hope to get back into the top six and fight for their place in the top flight.

Supporters of the club will be feeling like they can’t get a break at the minute with constant speculation surrounding the future of the 41-year-old, and they will be hoping they can soon put their full focus back into fixing their form to pick up more points in the league.

It’s not a surprise to see the Premier League club after the Baggies boss and it will surely only be a matter of time until he is managing in the top flight, with or without West Brom.

But if he can see out this season at The Hawthorns first, that will no doubt put his current side in a more stable position to replace him.
