Southampton next manager: Sky share ‘Substantial’ update on West Brom boss Corberan
Southampton look set to face problems to hire Carlos Corberan due to a “substantial” release clause in his West Brom contract, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster reported on Tuesday (17 December) that any deal for the Saints “could be problematic” as they eye the Spaniard as a replacement for Russell Martin.
The Baggies are thought to have “a substantial release clause” in his contract at The Hawthorns, worth in excess of £2million.
Former Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand and at least one other foreign manager are also said to be under consideration by the Premier League outfit.
Southampton face problem to hire West Brom boss Carlos Corberan
Although links to both the Saints and Wolves will be frustrating for Albion supporters, it does appear that the Baggies have their house in order.
The ex-Huddersfield Town boss is arguably the most important factor to success at The Hawthorns right now and losing him would be a blow.
As a result, it is certainly positive to see that the Spaniard has a release clause in his contract which even looks likely to put off top division sides.
This is ultimately the reason that this has been written into the manager’s contract and appears to be working to benefit the Midlands club this season.
It now feels unlikely that Southampton will pay the money and bring Corberan in, which can hopefully pave the way for an upturn in form in the Championship.
The ex-Olympiakos manager has proved his loyalty to Albion and will hope to be managing in the Premier League with them as early as next season.
