West Brom in ascendency with Carlos Corberan after Southampton update
West Brom are “in the ascendancy” as Southampton ponder a move to hire Carlos Corberan, Simon Jordan has said.
Speaking on talkSPORT (11:51am), Jordan stated that while Corberan is a good manager given his record with the Baggies and Huddersfield, the Spaniard should consider his next move carefully.
Corberan is one of the favourites to take over at Southampton following Russell Martin’s sacking and was previously linked with the Leicester City job, but Jordan questioned if leaving the Baggies would be wise.
Jordan said: “Carlos Corberan – if indeed there’s interest in him – would you take him?
“I think he’s a good manager, I think he did a good job at Huddersfield, didn’t he?
“You look at him and say – would he come from from WBA to Southampton? Is WBA a more appealing club because they look like they’re in the ascendancy.”
Carlos Corberan must stay the course at West Brom
Corberan’s goal with the Baggies has – since dragging them out of relegation trouble upon his arrival – been to achieve promotion to the Premier League, going one step further than he did with Huddersfield.
The Spaniard took the Terriers to the play-off final and was 90 minutes away from doing likewise with Albion last season, only to come up short, ironically, to Russell Martin’s Southampton side.

Southampton edging Leeds in the resultant Wembley decider hasn’t sparked long-term success, with Saints rooted to the foot of the Premier League table on just five points after 16 matches so far.
Corberan coming in and having the immediate impact he did at The Hawthorns could prove to be a huge boost for Southampton’s survival chances, but relegation would still be likely given their current position.
That would therefore leave Corberan back where he started – in the Championship with higher ambitions – and if he does want to be in the top-flight next term, his best chance is still to do so with the Baggies.
In other West Brom news, one Albion absentee is set for further fitness tests before he can be named in Corberan’s squad again.
