BBC WM share if Southampton have made West Brom approach for Corberan
Southampton have not approached West Brom for Carlos Corberan yet, BBC WM journalist Steve Hermon says.
The Saints were said to have offered the Spaniard a long-term contract [AS, 19 December] as they look for Russell Martin’s successor, who was sacked after a 5-0 loss against Tottenham in the Premier League.
Corberan has hit out at rumours that he feels disrespectful to the Baggies and The Hawthorns faithful.
The 41-year-old was also a candidate to replace Gary O’Neil at Wolves after the Englishman was relieved of his duties [Alan Nixon, 15 December].
Carlos Corberan interest not surprising at West Brom
Corberan has done well since making his way to the West Midlands club, taking the Baggies to the playoffs semi-final, eventually losing to Southampton.
Albion started the 2024/25 campaign on a high note, winning five of their first six games, but their performances have dropped since then.
While the Spaniard has lost just thrice in the Championship this term, he’s struggled to win games consistently, losing 2-1 to Watford in the previous fixture on 15 December
West Brom have had 11 draws this season, and the lack of goals at home has been frustrating for the supporters.
The Hawthorns has witnessed just eight goals from Corberan’s side, which has led to questions being asked about his ability.
While the Baggies faithful are in a dilemma about the 41-year-old, his qualities have attracted those in the English top flight, and it remains to be seen whether Southampton will make a concrete offer for him.
Corberan certainly has aspirations of managing in the Premier League, and it will be interesting to see whether the project at St Mary’s Stadium will appeal to him.
In other West Brom news, a familiar name is set to join Luton Town in January.
