Southampton offer long-term contract to Corberan to quit West Brom

Southampton have offered Carlos Corberan a contract in the hope of prising him away from West Brom, according to AS.

The Spanish outlet has reported that the proposal on the table is a long-term deal as well as giving him decision-making powers at the helm.

Since the Saints made the decision to sack Russell Martin, Corberan has been a frontrunner in the considerations and it looks as though the Premier League outfit has now made the plunge.

Carlos Corberan to leave West Brom for Southampton?

The Spaniard has done a great job with the Baggies and as a result, it’s no surprise to see him linked with plenty of jobs in the top flight over recent weeks.

However, unfortunately for the Black Country club, it seems as though Southampton are making the move to bring him to the Premier League which will be a hard offer for the boss to turn down.

In addition to this, the details of a long-term contract as well as the power to make decisions at St Mary’s will only convince the 41-year-old further to make the move upwards.

Corberan has been a driving force behind a project at the Hawthorns and his side currently sit two points away from the play-off spots, which is where they are looking to find themselves at the end of the season.

Whether he can be convinced to stay put is yet to be seen but with the Baggies not even sitting in the top six currently, it doesn’t provide enough of an assurance that they will be in the top flight next term.

Therefore, it would not be surprising to see the Spaniard accept the new role in an attempt to save Southampton from relegation.

For the Baggies, they will have to start eyeing up who could be his successor.
