West Brom injury news as Corberan confirms a new absence v Bristol City

Carlos Corberan has confirmed Callum Styles will miss some of the festive period for West Brom through injury.

Corberan told Lewis Cox of the Express & Star [20 December] that the utility man, who has been used as a full-back for the Baggies, picked up the issue during the first half of the defeat to Watford last Sunday [15 December].

The Hungarian international has featured 12 times in the Championship since arriving from Barnsley in the summer, and Corberan – whose side focus on the contest with Bristol City this weekend (22 December) – hopes he will be back after around a week.

“One player that is not going to be available is Styles. He was feeling something in the [Watford] game during the first half,” he said.

“We changed because I wanted to change but at the same time he couldn’t keep playing. So the change was a tactical question with a physical damage too.

“He has not been involved with the group. Normally he will need one more week of time to again be available with the team. That is the challenge of the Championship.”

West Brom offering mixed injury news

It isn’t all bad for West Brom fans in terms of a fitness update from the manager, as Corberan confirms Paddy McNair and Grady Diangana have both trained this week.

The duo have been very stop-start this season but could be involved against Bristol City, with the extra day’s preparation leading into Sunday paying potential dividends.

McNair’s loan from San Diego in the United States ends on 31 December, which will leave Corberan another man light – a factor of which to be mindful heading into the January transfer window.

The Baggies’ business strategy is so far unclear for the squad, though fans and the club alike were frustrated with the spending restriction imposed on Shilen Patel for much of last summer.

Several experienced players left The Hawthorns through either sales or contract expiries leaving Corberan a little short, though a late surge for Mikey Johnston in the summer window did improve the squad.
