West Brom v Bristol City controversy baffles BBC pundit – ‘I can’t believe…’
Gary Owers was left baffled after Bristol City were not awarded a penalty as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at West Brom.
The Baggies went into half-time two to the good after a brace from Mikey Johnston and a dominant opening 45 minutes at The Hawthorns.
However, Scott Twine went to ground in the box during the first half but didn’t appeal for a penalty, and carried on with player.
Former Bristol City player Owers was baffled that no one appealed for a spot-kick as he said on BBC Radio Bristol commentary: “That could easily be a penalty. I can’t believe no one appealed for that. It looked even worse on the replay.”
West Brom beat Bristol City
West Brom were dominant throughout the game and Carlos Corberan’s side deservedly came away from the game with all three points against City.
There may have been a penalty shout for the opposition in the first half but given Twine himself didn’t even appeal for anything, it probably was the right decision from the referee to let the game flow rather than giving a foul.

Owers did have the benefit of a replay to watch so probably got a better view of the challenge in order to be able to cast a real verdict on it and argue that a penalty was deserved.
Whether it was or was not a foul, Corberan’s side comfortably won the game 2-0 to start rising back up the table to seventh which is exactly what the Spaniard would’ve wanted to see from his side.
