West Brom may have Josh Maja transfer problem after Corberan update

Carlos Corberan’s future at West Brom remains up in the air and that uncertainty could prove costly in their bid to retain Josh Maja in January.

When Southampton announced the appointment of Ivan Juric, Baggies supporters were hopeful that would end speculation over Corberan’s exit although Valencia are now keen on his services (Hector Gomez).

The lack of clarity over his future at the club would impact their ability to keep Maja at The Hawthorns, who was previously linked with a switch to Celta Vigo according to Super Deporte.

With the uncertainty over whether Corberan is to remain in charge, Maja will undoubtedly have that in the back of his mind before deciding on his own future and the lack of clarity over who he could be playing under could spark an exit.

West Brom need a resolution on Carlos Corberan before January

West Brom simply can’t afford to let this speculation hinder their season but as long as the rumours circulate, it will have a telling impact on all areas of the club.

The Baggies’ recent win against Bristol City brought optimism that was extremely short-lived and that effect will linger for as long as supporters are unsure as to what is happening at their club.

If Corberan is staying, he needs to make that clear and if he is considering an exit as reported, the club and its supporters deserve that little bit of respect as it will have a huge impact on the remainder of the campaign.

One thing that is certainly not in question is that whatever decision he does make, Corberan has been an excellent servant to the club and a step up is more than deserved.

The coming weeks will hold a significant amount of importance as the Baggies aim to maintain their promotion push.

Key to those hopes are undoubtedly keeping top scorer Maja, but it could be a concern that he may not want to stick around if Corberan were to leave.

Moreover, with Chris Lepkowski revealing that there are expected to be “more bumps to come” as the Baggies attempt to comply with PSR rules once their next set of accounts are released, could there be a temptation to cash in on a big asset?

Let’s hope not, but Corberan departing could have a wider impact.
